Interview

Yoda: Hello Michael, we're delighted to have you here!

We're excited to introduce your web3 developer platform to our readers who may not have had the chance to explore it yet.

What prompted your transition to web3? Could you share more information about the Sequence team's backgrounds?

Sequence: Hi Yoda!

We founded Horizon in 2017, five and a half years ago, with the mission to make web3 easy, fun, and accessible for everyone. Our team consists of blockchain leaders who’ve made key contributions to the Ethereum ecosystem, including the ERC-1155 semi-fungible token standard, the ERC-1271 standard for smart wallets, the Niftyswap Protocol, and much more; open source and infrastructure architects whose software is relied on by leading companies like Cloudflare, Heroku, MongoDB and Mercedes-Benz; gaming veterans from the likes of Ubisoft and Blizzard; entrepreneurs who’ve built and sold successful tech companies; and business leaders from Meta and McKinsey. Our CEO Peter Kieltyka is regarded as one of the top web3 technologists and was recently named a top 10 gaming tycoon by Maclean’s. And, I’ve been in the blockchain space since 2010. We’re headquartered in Toronto, Canada, and we have teammates in 17 countries around the world.

Beyond all the business and tech brilliance, our team consists of truly wonderful people who are a pleasure to collaborate with. We’re all unified by a shared vision to unlock this next generation of the Internet—what we like to call a new dimension—where economies and experiences are fun, accessible, and for the benefit of all participants.

Yoda: Your team is truly amazing! The work you produce is outstanding, and it's clear that you all know exactly what you're doing. We would love to learn more about Sequence.

May I ask, what are some of the latest developments that you have built or worked on recently?

Sequence: Thank you for the kind words :)

We’ve been building both Sequence and Skyweaver in tandem for the past 5.5 years. It’s through building Skyweaver, a digital trading card game that was named 2022’s best blockchain game and whose player base consists primarily of folks having their first Web3 experience, that we’ve come to understand all the pain points of creating seamless and amazing web3 experiences. Ultimately, we’ve solved the biggest pain points and turned our solutions into the products that make up the Sequence developer platform + smart wallet.

We obsess over the developer experience because we want our partners to love using our tools, and we want to solve their web3 needs, so they can stay focused on delivering amazing and engaging experiences to their users. As a result, we’re continually listening to our partners and looking into the future to enhance the Sequence stack, which consists of the Sequence smart contract wallet, Token & NFT APIs, gasless transactions, blockchain indexer, marketplace tools, payment rails, and SDKs for whether you’re building on Web, mobile, Unity, or Unreal Engine.

Yoda: Great stuff! What sets Sequence apart from other developer platforms and smart wallets in the Web3 space?

Sequence: Our obsession over the developer and end-user experience, and the fact that we’ve built Web3 products and a Web3 game ourselves to intimately understand what’s needed in Web3 tooling.

Sequence is a comprehensive stack that gives builders everything they need to build for Web3. And, it’s modular, so developers can pick and choose which tools they like, or they can use the entire platform. Sequence plays nicely with other Web3 tools as well, and you can build with it right now.

The Sequence smart contract wallet represents the future of wallets, and it’s differentiated because it’s built with the everyday Internet user in mind. Ultimately, the wallet is a gateway, a portal, to this new dimension of Web3. It shouldn’t get in your way, but should enable you to create, explore, and transact. The Sequence Wallet harmonizes the most advanced capabilities of a Web3 wallet with seamless UX that anyone can understand. For example, you can read about why smart wallets like Sequence are better than MPC wallets. And, we’re constantly researching, experimenting, and listening to our partners, users, and the market to discover how we can make it even better. We’ve built Sequence for today, tomorrow, and the decades to come.

Yoda: Can you please share your roadmap for the upcoming months? Additionally, could you give a brief overview of your vision and long-term aspirations?

Sequence: We're focused on improving the accessibility of Sequence for developers, which in turn will make it easier for more games, apps, and brands to incorporate Web3 elements. So our big focus areas right now are improving our Unity and Unreal Engine SDKs as well as creating a no-code dashboard so non-technical teammates can manage and contribute to Web3 projects.

Yoda: Exciting times are ahead! What partnerships does Sequence have except the ones we mentioned already? What types of collaborations does Sequence pursue to expand the platform's capabilities and reach?

Sequence: We're thrilled to have many exciting partnerships in the pipeline, ranging from games to collectibles to token-gated experiences to marketplaces and more. We're amazed by the creativity and innovation our partners deliver and are honored to support their journeys. Our focus is primarily on medium-to-large game companies and brands looking to enter Web3. To help them launch and manage their Web3 games, apps, and experiences, we'll soon release a no-code dashboard that's suitable for companies of all sizes.

As a user and developer-centric brand, we're always excited to hear thoughts, comments, and feedback from our community, and we strive to deliver the best and most seamless UX to web3. Be sure to stay up-to-date on our website, which will soon feature a partner ecosystem page referencing all of our pioneer partners, and follow us on Twitter for exciting announcements coming in May.

We’re also sponsoring the Web3 track at GamesBeat Summit May 22-23, which is an annual event for gaming executives, where we’ll host a panel “Time to Level Up: What’s needed for the next successful web3 game” in addition to a roundtable for game companies exploring web3. And, we’re sponsoring the first-ever 3XP, a Web3 gaming expo, June 8-9.

Yoda: Exciting stuff! We'll keep track of your progress and cheer you on every step of the way!

Do you have any final thoughts to share with our readers?

Sequence: Dream, explore, play, create, and love. If you’re a builder or explorer, come join our Discord to connect with the amazing community of players and creators. We’re here to support you on your web3 journey :)
