Interview

Yoda: Hello! We’re thrilled to have you here!

We would love to introduce Oath of Peak to our readers who haven’t had the chance to take a look at it yet.

What inspired your leap to Web3? Tell us about the amazing team behind Oath of Peak and what fueled your game's creation.

Oath of Peak: Essentially, Oath of Peak is an ambitious MMORPG game set in the mythical lands of the Omnispirit continent. Overall, the game is designed such that players can access the entire experience without any barriers or paywalls. It's truly a free to play game.

The game design actually started back in 2016, and we've spent more than 5 years building this massive open world for players to explore and enjoy. It was only after the core gameplay was deemed fun and viable did we look to implement blockchain elements to the project to enhance the player's experience by making it easier to trade, acquire, and overall interact within Oath of Peak.

Yoda: Cool! Can you tell us about your experience playing Oath of Peak? What did you enjoy about the game the most?

Oath of Peak: To me, more ownership means having more freedom to choose how you want to use your assets. In an mmorpg game like Oath of Peak, where the core game is about getting stronger, collecting different items, and exploring an open world, we used blockchain technology to make it easier for players to do different things with their assets. For example, one of the game's core assets is the Primordial Spirit Beast. Players can take their Primordials with them into combat and fight raid bosses together, or even transform into the primordial to use its special attacks.

And with the implementation of blockchainy, players can move their Primordial Spirit Beasts across different accounts and across different servers. They can also sell them for some revenue, or even lend them out to help their fellow travelers get through a specific dungeon. Lastly, probably the most exciting part, is that players can breed even more primordial spirit beast NFTs and trade them in the Yeeha Games market.

However, I want to emphasize that digital gaming assets like these Primordial NFT only have value when they can add to an exciting gaming experience. That's why we put so much focus on making sure the core gaming experience is there first, because ownership of an asset is great, but we want to make sure that there's actual value to the assets that you own!

I won't go into much more details in the interest of time but more info can be found in the Whitepaper if anyone is interested

Yoda: Wonderful! With the game's Play-and-Earn concept, how easy or challenging is it to acquire valuable in-game assets?

Oath of Peak: Before going too much into this question, I want to mention that the definition of earn has been quite distorted in the GameFi industry. Especially with this slogan of Play to Earn. Players apparently generate returns just by playing a game. In that sense, no, Oath of Peak will not pay players just to play our game. Any game that promises to pay their players just for playing is probably a scam.

However, the proper definition of earn is to obtain compensation for generating value, and in that sense, Oath of Peak does enable users to earn some money by generating value for another player. For example, if a player has a lot of great gear that they don't need, they can sell them off to players who can utilize them. One side gets the experience associated with owning the great gear and the other side gets compesated for that experience. That's earning.

Another example is if a player holds a Genesis Primordial Spirit Beast NFT and breeds an even more powerful second generation Primordial. They can sell that primordial to a player that's looking for a strong companion. Again, the player makes earnings by providing a companion for another player.

Overall, blockchain and NFT technology don’t just generate money out of thin air. Nothing does that. But with the technology, we're enabled to build a better community that's more interactive and reward players that contribute positive interactions.

Yoda: Great stuff really! What sets Oath of Peak apart from other MMORPGs on the market? Are there any upcoming updates or features that players can look forward to?

Oath of Peak: One of our core beliefs is that the purpose of video games should always be about having a great experience. We don't really see blockchain as it's own type of gaming experience, but rather blockchain technology can offer a lot of great tools to enhance various gaming experiences. So the games that we are releasing and looking to enable aren't necessarily blockchain games, but rather games enhanced with Blockchain Technology.

Aside from offering a platform where developers can work together with players to create these quality gaming experiences, Yeeha Games has also funded and partnered with over 800 game developers to release 11 different games.

The first of the 11 games, Oath of Peak, an MMORPG set in an ancient world of mythology and legends, was released in January, 2023. Oath of Peak was the first game launched in 2023 to become a top 30 dApp. The game also became the 2nd largest game and the 6th biggest app on Polygon within 2 weeks of launch.

Yoda: Get ready for some heart-pumping gameplay!

Before we dive in, we'd love to hear your final reflections. What message do you have for gamers who are considering playing Oath of Peak?

Oath of Peak: We are happy that everyone enjoys our games. Here are some game guides - Oath of Peak FAQ and overall guides.

GamePlay

Oath of Peak is an MMORPG that offers a unique experience with its diverse class system, vibrant world, and cel-shading aesthetics. The game's mechanics provide a different perspective on the MMORPG genre and offer an engaging combat system that relies heavily on player skill. However, these mechanics can be confusing for new players due to the steep learning curve. Additionally, the game places a heavy reliance on cutscenes to explain the narrative, which takes away from the thrill of exploring the world.

The class system in Oath of Peak offers a diverse range of playstyles, making the game accessible to those who prefer a specific style of play. Each class provides unique combat techniques, allowing players to choose a character that suits their playstyle. The skill dynamics in the game are also robust, providing players with an opportunity to complete Trail Quests to harness the full power of their mastery effect. Players can customize their characters to their liking, with five outfit slots and slots for weapons, accessories, and rings.

The quests in Oath of Peak are at the heart of the gameplay, with players having to complete them to earn experience points and gear. Spirit Beasts also aid players in combat with their unique set of skills. Combat in the game is action-based and real-time, requiring players to dodge incoming attacks while using a combination of area-of-effect attacks, single-unit moves, and burst abilities to be victorious.

The guild system in Oath of Peak is vast, allowing for Player versus Player battles, as well as Guild versus Guild engagements, offering an opportunity to experience a sense of community in the game. The game's adaptation of ancient literature adds an additional level of depth to the narrative, making it a unique experience for those who have an interest in literature.

However, the game can be overwhelming for new players due to the steep learning curve. The lack of introduction to the world, story, and combat mechanics can be a challenge for new players, making it difficult to immerse themselves in the game. Additionally, the reliance on cutscenes to explain the narrative can take away from the thrill of exploring the world, making it feel like a passive experience rather than an active one. Finally, once players reach a certain level, the game can become repetitive and overly reliant on the auto-battle feature.

Overall, Oath of Peak is an immersive and enjoyable MMORPG that provides a unique experience with its mechanics and diverse class system. However, it may not be suitable for everyone, particularly those who are new to the genre. The game's steep learning curve, reliance on cutscenes, and repetitive nature may put some players off. Despite these drawbacks, the game's vibrant world, cel-shading aesthetics, and adaptation of ancient literature make it a worthwhile experience for those who enjoy MMORPGs.
