Technology Should Be Invisible And Games Should Be Fun

Susan Cummings, co-founder of Tiny Rebel Games, expresses her dislike for labeling games as "blockchain games" or "Web3 games" as she feels this terminology can negatively impact player perception and engagement. She prefers to focus on making an enjoyable core game first and foremost.

The blockchain features in Doctor Who: Worlds Apart are "invisible" to players and do not require any cryptocurrency or wallet to start playing. Players can earn unique NFT items through regular gameplay progression.

With this approach the game can appeal to general Doctor Who fans and gamers, not just crypto/blockchain enthusiasts. The blockchain components provide benefits like digital asset ownership and new revenue models, but they do not define the game itself. The tech layer should happen behind the scenes in a way that enhances, not compromises, gameplay and accessibility.

If we have more advocates who focus on making an enjoyable game, and then integrating blockchain tech in ways that benefit players (without requiring crypto knowledge or investment upfront) Web3 gaming truly has the potential to replace traditional gaming.
